Actor John Raitt’s Broadway Memorabilia Given to the Library of Congress

The Broadway and personal memorabilia of John Raitt has been donated to the music division of the Library of Congress.

Raitt originated the roles of Billy Bigelow in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel and Sid Sorkin in The Pajama Game. Among his many other Broadway credits are Magdalena, Three Wishes for Jamie, Carnival in Flanders, and A Joyful Noise.

Included in the materials that have been donated to the library are scrapbooks, publicity photos, recordings, annotated scripts, musical scores, tapes he made of himself, and correspondence.

In related news, Raitt’s daughter Bonnie Raitt has launched the website johnraitt.com dedicated to her father’s career.
