Thaddeus Phillips will perform Capsule 33 at Barrow Street Theatre, September 17-October 16.

Co-created by Phillips with Tatiana Mallarino, the play focuses on a fictional resident of the famed Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, hailed as the world’s first example of “recyclable housing,” which is on the brink of being imploded (both in the play and in real life), and his final day in the tower.

Capsule 33 mirrors the technology used for the tower. The set is designed and constructed out of recycled materials, and uses no electricity from the power grid to run the show. The creative team includes Evening Magazine (original music) and James Clotfelter (lighting design).

Phillips’ other plays include ¡El Conquistador!, Flamingo/Winnebago, and Red-Eye
