On Sunday, September 26, the Off-Broadway production of Daniel Beaty’s Through the Night opened at the Union Square Theatre, under the direction of Charles Randolph-Wright.

Celebrities in attendance included Ruby Dee, Joel Grey, Pauletta Washington, Maurice Hines, Malik Yoba, Lynn Whitfield, Judith Light, Veanne Cox, Kwame Jackson, Daryl Roth, Didi Conn, David Shire, and Peter Shaffer.

In the show, which previously played at New Jersey’s Crossroads Theatre and Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse, Beaty portrays a variety of African-American characters, ranging from an inquisitive 10-year-old boy to an elderly preacher, who are connected through their community.
