On Tuesday, September 28, Kneehigh Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of
Brief Encounter opened at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Studio 54. Emma Rice has adapted and directed the piece.
Notables in attendance included Michael Cerveris, Melina Kanakaredes, Gavin Lee, Margaret Colin, Debra Monk, Victor Garber, Dana Ivey, Tovah Feldshuh, Walter Bobbie, Chandler Williams, Claudia Shear, and Carolyn McCormack.
Brief Encounter combines elements of Noël Coward’s screenplay, and the one act play on which it was based, with song, dance and Technicolor displays of emotion. It previously played New York at St. Ann’s Warehouse in December 2009.
The cast features Joseph Alessi (Albert/Fred), Dorothy Atkinson (Beryl), Damon Daunno (Bill/Bobbie), Gabriel Ebert (Stanley), Edward Jay (Musician), Annette McLaughlin (Myrtle), Adam Pleeth (Musician), Tristan Sturrock (Alec), and Hannah Yelland (Laura).
