Oscar Nominee Irving Ravetch Dies at 89

Screenwriter Irving Ravetch, who adapted William Inge’s The Dark at the Top of the Stairs for film, has died in Los Angeles at age 89, according to The Associated Press.

Ravetch and his wife, Harriet Frank Jr, received Oscar nominations for the screenplays to Hud and Norma Rae. His other writing credits included The Long, Hot Summer, Home from the Hill, Hombre, Stanley & Iris, Murphy’s Romance, and Conrack.


He is survived by his wife.
