The Stella Adler Studio of Acting will host the 5th annual Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, September 20-October 1. The festival brings artists and activists together to discuss the relationship between art and social activism.

Running throughout the festival is a production of Israel Horovitz’ Lebensraum (September 22-October 1), an imaginative play in which a contemporary German Chancellor implements a Holocaust reparations plan that sets off a chain of visceral responses that have a global affect. Horovitz will participate in a symposium on September 27 at 7:30pm, entitled What Can Art Do? What Can’t Art Do? And Why We Can’t Live Without It, along with Colin Greer and Margie Gillis.

Gillis will also be represented with Two Short Works with Margie Gillis on September 28 and 29 at 7pm, featuring a piece set to Molly Bloom’s soliloquy from Ulysses as performed by Betsy Parrish, and a new work created and performed by Gillis and Adam Barruch. Parrish will also be featured in the Betsy Parrish Cabaret on September 30 and October 2 at 8pm, in which she and Alice Evans will perform Life: A Work in Progress.

In addition, dancer Alexandra Wells will be honored on September 30 at 7:30pm with the MAD Spirit Award. The evening will feature performances by four choreographers.
