Howie Michael Smith to Play Princeton/Rod in Off-Broadway’s Avenue Q

Howie Michael Smith will reprise his performance as Princeton/Rod in Avenue Q, joining the Off-Broadway production playing at New World Stages on September 27. Smith was seen in the Broadway company of the musical and played the role over 1,000 times from 2006 through 2009.

The musical focuses on a group of 20-something people and puppets fresh out of college who move to New York City with big dreams. Smith joins a company that also features Becca Ayers (Mrs. T, Bear and others); Hazel Anne Raymundo (Christmas Eve); Sarah Stiles (Kate Monster/Lucy); Cullen R. Titmas (Nicky/Trekkie Monster); Nicholas Kohn (Brian); and Haneefah Wood (Gary Coleman).

Avenue Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore and has choreography by Ken Roberson. The creative team includes Anna Louizos (scenic design), Mirena Rada (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design). Puppet conception and design is by Rick Lyon.
