Patrick Swayze to Be Honored by ABC’s Dancing With the Stars

Film and stage star Patrick Swayze, who died in Los Angeles of pancreatic cancer on September 14, will be honored on the September 23 edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars as many of the show’s professional will do their interpretations of music from Swayze’s memorable films, according to TVGuide.com. The actor participated in the show’s first season by teaching actor John O’Hurley and attending the season finale.

Swayze began his performance career as a dancer, studying with the Harkness Ballet Company and the Joffrey Ballet before becoming a principal dancer for Eliot Feld Ballet. He starred on Broadway as Danny Zuko in Grease, Goodtime Charley, and Chicago, and he played Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls in London.

Swayze was best known for his film work, including starring roles in Dirty Dancing, Point Break, The Outsiders and Ghost. He recently starred in the A&E television FBI drama The Beast.

Swayze will be honored posthumously with the 2009 Rolex Dance Award on Monday, November 2, at Career Transition For Dancers 24th Anniversary Jubilee Gala at New York’s City Center.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his mother, and three siblings.
