Alec Baldwin, Kristin Chenoweth, Glenn Close, Cherry Jones, Jessica Lange, et al. Win Emmy Awards

The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, September 20 in Los Angeles and aired live on CBS-TV. Broadway veteran Neil Patrick Harris, who was nominated for his role on How I Met Your Mother, hosted the ceremony.

Among the theater veterans recognized for their work this year were Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Ellen Burstyn (Law & Order: SVU), Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies), Glenn Close (Damages), Toni Collette (The United States of Tara), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Michael Emerson (Lost), Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm), Ken Howard (Grey Gardens), Cherry Jones (24), and Jessica Lange (Grey Gardens).

Presenters included stage veterans Kevin Bacon, Dana Delany, Johnny Galecki, Ricky Gervais, Chris O’Donnell, Josh Radnor, Kyra Sedgwick, and Chandra Wilson.

In addition, Harris sang an opening number penned by Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and participated in a segment related to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, former Burn the Floor stars Maksim Chmerkoviskiy and Karina Smirnoff led a dance segment. and Sarah McLachlan sang a live version of “I Will Remember You” as part of the show’s “In Memoriam” segment.
