Teresa Stratas to Appear at Town Hall September 25

Legendary soprano Teresa Stratus will appear at Town Hall as part of Metropolitan Opera Guild’s “Met Legends” series. The event will take place on September 25 at 8 pm.

The program will feature the singer discussing her life and career with the event’s executive producer, Paul Gruber. Highlights will include the showing of a new video biography, with photos and other material taken from Stratas’ personal archives, and screening of video selections from early CBC telecasts of arias and scenes from Macbeth, Pagliacci, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Eugene Onegin, as well as Stratas’s first television performance at the age of 19.

There will also be selections from Met telecasts of La Bohème, The Bartered Bride, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, and The Ghosts of Versailles, as well as highlights from Stratas’ commercial films, and a never before seen video.

Broadway’s Charles Strouse and Joseph Stein — who wrote the Broadway show Rags in which she starred — will be in attendance. Other expected guests will include Licia Albanese, John Corigliano, Rosalind Elias, Lauren Flanigan, Jean Kraft, and Roberta Peters.
