Nottage, Upshaw, et al. Named 2007 MacArthur Fellows

Playwright Lynn Nottage, opera singer Dawn Upshaw, and choreographer Shen Wei are among the 24 individuals named as 2007 MacArthur Fellows by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Each fellow will receive $500,000 in “no strings” support over the next five years.

Nottage is the author of such plays as Crumbs from the Table of Joy, Intimate Apparel, and Fabulation. Upshaw has appeared at many of the world’s leading opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera, and has also recorded albums of American standards, including I Wish It So, Dawn Upshaw Sings Rodgers & Hart, and Dawn Upshaw Sings Vernon Duke. Shen Wei’s works, which combine Eastern and Western influence, have been performed as part of the Lincoln Center Festival and at the Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
