Mary-Louise Parker to Star in Dead Man’s Cell Phone

Mary-Louise Parker will star in the Playwrights Horizons’ production of Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man Cell’s Phone, to be directed by Anne Bogart, which begins previews on February 8. She joins previously announced co-star Kathleen Chalfant in the production, which opens officially on March 4.

The play concerns a woman who answers a ringing cell phone that belongs to a dead man and then gets involved with his family and friends. Ruhl is the author of The Clean House and Eurydice. The show’s creative team includes G.W. Mercier (sets and costumes). Brian Scott (lighting), and Darron L. West (sound).

Parker won the Tony Award for Proof and received Tony nominations for Reckless and Prelude to a Kiss. She won an Obie Award, among other honors, for How I Learned to Drive. She has won a Golden Globe Award for her current Showtime series Weeds, an Emmy Award for Angels in America, and an Emmy nomination for The West Wing.

Chalfant was nominated for a Tony Award for Angels in America, and received Drama Desk, Obie, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics awards for her work in Wit. She is also the recipient of a 1996 Obie for Sustained Excellence of Performance and Drama League and Sidney Kingsley awards for body of work.
