Madonna has been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and will be inducted in a ceremony to take place at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on March 10. The other new members are John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen, The Dave Clark Five, and The Ventures. A group of 500 musicians, industry professionals, and journalists vote on the induction.

Madonna has released numerous hit albums in the past 25 years, including Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, and Ray of Light, and has received numerous Grammy Awards and other industry honors for her efforts.

She appeared on Broadway in David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow. Her film credits include the title role in Evita, for which she won the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress, and Dick Tracy, in which she sang Stephen Sondheim's Oscar-winning song "Sooner or Later." Her other film credits include The Next Best Thing, A League of Their Own, and Desperately Seeking Susan.
