Louis Cancelmi will now play the title role in Soho Rep’s production of Philoktetes, written, directed, and designed by John Jesurun. The show will run October 13-28, with an official opening set for October 17. He replaces Christopher McCann.

Inspired by Sophocles’ Greek tragedy, the play concerns the title character, who is entreated by his fellow soldiers to join them in winning the Trojan War, even though they had abandoned him on an island ten years prior.

The cast will include Will Badgett as Odysseus and Jason Lew as Neoptolemus. The play will feature lighting design by Jeff Nash and costume design by Ruth Pongstaphone.

Jesurun is a past recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (also known as the “genius grant”), and the author of such works as Chang in a Void Moon, Deep Sleep, Faust/How I Rose, and Everything That Rises Must Converge.
