Julie Andrews Set for NYT’s Third Annual Great Read

Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton will be among the participants in the New York Times’ Third Annual Great Children’s Read, to take place on Sunday, October 14 at Columbia University.

During this free event, celebrities will read from 20 children’s book selected by New York City librarians. Other participants will include the Mary Poppins star Ashley Brown, Emmy Award winner Mariska Hargitay, the cast of Disney’s Johnny and the Sprites, Sesame Street star Sonia Manzano, rock group They Might Be Giants, Spelling Bee star Jennifer Simard, and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Also that day, the Times will present The Great Literary Brunch, to take place at the new TimesCenter (242 West 41st Street). The event, to be hosted by Robert Lipsyte, will feature discussions with six best-selling authors. The participants will include award-winning actor Alan Alda, who recently released his latest book, Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself, as well as Chris Matthews, Amy Bloom, Stephen L. Carter, Ann Patchett, and Tom Perrotta.
