The Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck, New York has announced that it has hired Manhattan Theatre Club veteran Michael Bush to be its new artistic director and will honor actress Tovah Feldshuh and Leslie Uggams at a special fundraiser to be held on Thursday, October 11 at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle.

Emelin, which was founded in 1972, is launching its $10 million “Next Stage” project, which will allow it to incorporate its existing theater into a new performing arts center. The new facility will also include a 60-seat black box theater and a new space for its popular Film Club, led by critic Marshall Fine. Bush will oversee a new play festival in November. Additional programming will be announced shortly.

In addition to his work at MTC, Bush has been the artistic director of The Eugene O’Neill Theater’s Cabaret & Performance Conference and the producing artistic director of the Charlotte Repertory Theatre. He has directed works at the Philadelphia Theatre Company, the Prince Music Theatre, and CanStage in Toronto, and will direct the NYMF production of The Piper later this month.
