Doug Hughes Named New School’s Artist-in-Residence

Tony Award-winning director Doug Hughes has been named The New School for Drama’s Artist-in-Residence for the 2007-2008 academic year. He will teach two master classes and address the school’s student body at a town hall meeting.

Last week, Hughes was appointed to be the Roundabout Theatre Company’s resident director, a new position that was created to provide an additional voice for the company’s artistic director, Todd Haimes, and his colleagues. Hughes has directed numerous plays for the Roundabout, including A Touch of the Poet, A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, Howard Katz, McReele, and The Paris Letter.

Hughes won the Tony Award, among numerous other honors, for Doubt. His many other New York credits include Inherit the Wind, Defiance, Flesh and Blood, and Frozen. He is currently directing Theresa Rebeck’s Mauritius, which begins performances on September 13 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Biltmore Theatre.
