Chicago’s Joseph Jefferson Award Nominations Are Announced

Nominations for the 39th Annual Joseph Jefferson Awards, honoring the best of Chicago-area Equity theater, were announced on September 6. Winners in 30 categories will be announced at a ceremony on October 29 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois.

Topping the nominee list were the Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of Tracy Letts’ play Osage: Orange County, which moves to Broadway next month, and the Marriott Theatre’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, with eight nominations each.

Other shows with multiple nominations included Porchlight Music Theatre’s Ragtime, Lookingglass Theatre’s production of Mary Zimmerman’s Argonautika, the Goodman Theatre’s production of Zimmerman’s Mirror of the Invisible World, and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s production of the musical The Three Musketeers.
