Broadway and film stars Tony Roberts, Lois Smith, and David Strathairn will participate in a live version of the National Public Radio series Selected Shorts at 7:30pm on Tuesday, September 19 at the Westport Country Playhouse. The program will be broadcast at a later date.

The event is part of ARTS in the House, a co-presentation of the playhouse and the Westport Arts Center. Roberts will read the short story “Sorry Fugu” by T.C. Boyle, Smith will read Tessa Hadley’s “A Mouthful of Cut Glass,” and Strathairn will read Andrew Lam’s “The Palmist.”

Roberts most recently starred on Broadway in Barefoot in the Park and previously appeared in such shows as Absurd Person Singular and Sugar. On September 11, he will kick off the new season of Food for Thought in New York City. Smith received a Drama Desk Award and Lucille Lortel Award this year for her work in The Trip to Bountiful. She is a two-time Tony Award nominee for Buried Child and The Grapes of Wrath, and she co-stars in the film Hollywoodland, which opens this week. Strathairn received an Academy Award nomination earlier this year for his performance as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck; his Broadway credits include Salome and Dance of Death.

Tickets to the reading are priced at $15-$25 and can be ordered by calling 203-227-4177 or visiting westportplayhouse.org.
