Tony Award-winning director Harold Prince and famed architect/set designer David Rockwell will be among the panelists for The Art of Boris Aronson, Theatrical Designer, a free program to be held at 6pm on Tuesday, October 3 at the New York Public Library for The Performing Arts (40 Lincoln Center Plaza). Writer Foster Hirsch and Lisa Aronson will also participate in the discussion.

Aronson, who died in 1980, emigrated to America from Russia in 1923. Soon after his arrival, he began designing sets for New York’s many Jewish and Yiddish theaters. He later designed productions for Radio City Music Hall, the Group Theater, and for ballet and opera companies.

However, he was best known for his work on dozens of Broadway shows, including I Am a Camera, The Diary of Anne Frank, Fiddler on the Roof, Company, and Follies. He received eight Tony Awards during his career; his first was for Seasons in the Sun in 1950, and his last was for Pacific Overtures in 1976.
