Thomas Meehan to be Honored at Helen Hayes Gala

Thomas Meehan, co-author of the Broadway musicals The Producers, Hairspray, and Annie, will receive the first annual “Helen” Award at the Helen Hayes Theatre Company’s Gala 10 celebration on Sunday, September 25 at 6pm. He will be saluted by Olympia Dukakis, Rupert Holmes, Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford, Didi Conn, David Shire, Laura Bell Bundy, Charles Strouse, Loni Ackerman, and members of the Helen Hayes Youth Theater, who will perform selections from their recent productions.

Meehan wrote the books for the The Producers, Hairspray and Annie, winning Tony Awards for all three. His other Broadway musical credits include Bombay Dreams, Ain’t Broadway Grand, and I Remember Mama. He also wrote the book for the Off-Broadway show Annie Warbucks and the screenplays for Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs and To Be or Not to Be.

Tickets to the benefit are priced at $250, which includes admission to a black-tie cocktail reception. Call 845-358-2847, ext. 32 for reservations.
