Three-time Olivier Award winner Simon Russell Beale will replace Tim Curry as King Arthur in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Monty Python’s Spamalot on December 20.

One of Britain’s most respected actors, Beale won the Olivier for his performances in Volpone, Candide, and Uncle Vanya. The last-named production was seen at BAM in 2003, in repertory with Twelfth Night, and it earned Beale a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Actor. Beale was seen on Broadway in 2004 in a revival of Tom Stoppard’s Jumpers, for which performance he received a Tony nomination.

Spamalot won three 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show currently stars David Hyde Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Christopher Sieber, Steve Rosen, Michael McGrath, Sara Ramirez and Christian Borle. Original star Hank Azaria is expected to return to the production in November.
