Scott Bakula to Star in Ford’s Theatre Shenandoah
Scott Bakula will star as family patriarch Charlie Anderson in the Ford’s Theatre production of the Tony Award-winning musical Shenandoah. Jeff Calhoun will helm the production, which will run March 17-May 21. No other casting has been announced.
Shenandoah, which features a score by Gary Geld and Peter Udell and a book by Udell, James Lee Barrett, and Philip Rose, tells the story of a Southern family with seven children that manages to stay out of the Civil War until a Yankee soldier mistakes the youngest son for a rebel soldier. The 1975 musical, which was based on a 1965 film starring Jimmy Stewart, won two Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Actor in a Musical for John Cullum. (Cullum also starred in a short-lived 1989 Broadway revival.)
Bakula made his Broadway debut in Marilyn: An American Fable. He went on to star in Romance/Romance, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He received four Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award for his starring role in the TV series Quantum Leap. His film work includes Necessary Roughness and American Beauty.
Calhoun received a Tony Award nomination for his choreography of the Broadway revival of Grease. He also directed the Tony-nominated revival of Big River and was a co-producer and director of Brooklyn the Musical. He is currently represented Off-Broadway with Rob Nash’s critically acclaimed solo show Holy Cross Sucks!
