Reading and Film Screening to Complement A.C.T. Production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

The upcoming A.C.T. production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be complemented by a screening of the 1958 film version and a reading from a new book about Tennessee Williams.

The screening, to be hosted by local newscaster Jan Wahl, will take place at 7pm on October 10 at the Castro Theater. The film stars Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Judith Anderson, and Burl Ives. Prizes will be awarded to select audience members who dress like the film’s characters. Admission is $10.

On October 24 at 7:30pm, author and A.C.T. dramaturg Michael Paller will read from his new book Gentlemen Callers: Tennesee Williams, Homosexuality, and Mid-Twentieth Century Drama, at Cody’s Books in Berkeley, California.

The cast of A.C.T.’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is headed by René Augesen (Maggie), Michael James Reed (Brick), Jack Willis (Big Daddy), Katherine McGrath (Big Mama), Rod Gnapp (Gooper), Anne Darragh (Mae), and James Carpenter (Doctor Baugh). The creative team includes Ralph Funicello (set design), Sandra Woodall (costume design), Russell H. Champa (lighting design), and Fitz Patton (sound design). Directed by Israel Hicks, the show is set to begin previews on October 13 and to open officially on October 19.
