Johnny Cash Musical Ring of Fire to Hit Broadway in February

Ring of Fire, a show featuring the music of country legend Johnny Cash, will begin performances at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre in February. Tony Award winner Jarrod Emick, Grammy Award winner Lari White, and Broadway veteran Cass Morgan head the cast. The show will be directed by Richard Maltby, Jr., who created it with William Meade.

The cast also includes Eric Anthony, Jeb Brown, Laurie Canaan, Jason Edwards, Dan Immel, Ron Krasinski, Jeff Lisenby, David M. Lutken, Beth Malone, Brent Moyer, and Randy Redd. Ring of Fire will have musical direction by Lisenby and choreography by Lisa Shriver. The design team includes Neil Patel (sets), David C. Woolard (costumes), Ken Billington (lighting), Peter Fitzgerald and Carl Casella (sound), and Michael Clark (projection design).

Maltby won a Tony as Best Director for the musical revue Ain’t Misbehavin’. He also co-conceived and directed Fosse (which earned him another of his 11 Tony nominations), directed Song and Dance, and wrote the lyrics for Miss Saigon. With his frequent writing partner, David Shire, he wrote the songs for the Broadway shows Baby and Big and the Off-Broadway revues Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer Than Ever. He also wrote the Broadway musical Nick & Nora with Charles Strouse.

Ring of Fire brings to the stage stories made famous in Johnny Cash’s songs, including “Country Boy,” “A Thing Called Love,” “Five Feet High and Rising,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “Ring of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “I’ve Been Everywhere,” and “The Man in Black.” The show is being presented by William Meade, CTM Productions, G-Four Productions, Robert Quillo, and James B. Freydberg, who also serves as executive producer.
