Sutton Foster, Danny Burstein, Georgia Engel, Edward Hibbert, Eddie Korbich, Beth Leavel, Kecia Lewis-Evans, and Lenny Wolpe head the cast of the Ahmanson Theater production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Tony Award nominee Casey Nicholaw (Spamalot) will direct the musical, which will run November 10-December 24.

Also in the cast are Troy Britton Johnson, Garth Kravits, Jason Kravits, Angela Pupello, Jennifer Smith, Joey Sorge, and Patrick Wetzel. The show will have scenic design by David Gallo, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Ken Billington and Brian Monahan, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.

Foster won a Tony Award for her performance in the title role of Thoroughly Modern Millie and last appeared on Broadway in Little Women: The Musical. Burstein’s New York credits include A Class Act and Mrs. Farnsworth. Engel is best known for her role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Hibbert won an Obie Award for Jeffrey and had a recurring role on TV’s Frasier. Korbich’s credits include Enoch Snow in the Lincoln Center revival of Carousel. Leavel was recently seen Off-Broadway in Lone Star Love. Lewis-Evans received a Drama Desk nomination this year for Dessa Rose. Wolpe appeared at the Paper Mill Playhouse in the title role The Baker’s Wife and as Herbie in Gypsy, opposite Betty Buckley.

With music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, The Drowsy Chaperone has a show-within-a-show concept. As the narrator (played by Martin) plays a rare recording of a 1920s-era musical titled The Drowsy Chaperone, he tells stories about it. Meanwhile, the musical — about an ill-fated society wedding — comes alive on stage.
