Kathleen Chalfant, Buck Henry, and Denis O’Hare will star in a benefit reading of Irwin Shaw’s one-act play Bury the Dead at the Great Hall at Cooper Union (7 East 7th Street) at 8pm on Monday, September 19. The event will benefit the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Not in Our Name, and Amnesty International. Admission is a suggested donation of $20.

The reading will be hosted by Kathryn Blume and Sharron Bower, co-creators of the Lysistrata Project, and will feature a cast of 75 actors under the direction of Randall Stuart. Shaw’s play, written in 1936, is set on a battlefield where corpses rise from the dirt and tell the world about the brutality of war.

Chalfant, one of the theater’s most respected actresses, is best known for her starring role in Wit. Henry has been seen on Broadway in Art and Morning’s at Seven, and his writing credits include the screenplay for The Graduate. O’Hare won a Tony Award for his performance in Take Me Out and is currently co-starring in the revival of Sweet Charity.
