The only complete score that jazz legend Duke Ellington ever wrote for a stage musical will be heard again beginning September 14 with the premiere of Beggar’s Holiday at the Marin Theatre Company in Mill Valley, California.

Playwright Dale Wasserman has rewritten John Latouche’s original book and added some lyrics to Latouche’s originals for this production of the show, which is a contemporary reworking of John Gay’s 1728 classic The Beggar’s Opera. Directed by Lee Sankowich, the Marin production features choreography by Richard Gibbs and musical direction by Donald York.

The show is scheduled to run through October 10 in Mill Valley; a possible subsequent run in San Francisco is in the planning stages.
