On October 7, the Naked Angels Theater Company will begin a new reading series with a free public reading of Graham Gordy’s latest play, The Discipline. Called “1st Mondays,” the series will offer premiere readings of new plays by both established and emerging playwrights on the first Monday of every month.

Now in its 17th season, Naked Angels is a respected downtown theater company well known for its developmental programs, which already include the cold-reading series “Tuesdays@9” and the “Angels In Progress” workshops. The company has helped to develop and produce such noteworthy works such as Jon Robin Baitz’s The Substance of Fire, David Marshall Grant’s Snakebit, and Stephen Belber’s Tape. Naked Angels’ members include Joe Mantello, Marisa Tomei, Ron Rifkin, Matthew Broderick, Kenneth Lonergan, Fisher Stevens, Jace Alexander, and Rob Morrow.

The “1st Mondays” reading of The Discipline will feature actors David Strathairn, John Slattery, Skipp Sudduth, and Jodie Markell. Admission is free. The performance will take place at 8pm at Currents Uncorporated, located at 116 West Houston Street in New York City.
