Along with the rest of New York City and the nation, the Broadway community will today be marking the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

First, there will be an evening vigil in Duffy Square (by the Times Square TKTS booth), beginning at 6:30pm. In attendance will be members of the theater community, including cast and crew of the eight Broadway shows playing today. Those shows are: The Boys From Syracuse, The Graduate (no matinee), Hairspray, Metamorphoses, The Producers, Proof, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

At the 8pm curtain time, the lights of those shows’ marquees will be dimmed. Most shows will have pre- or post-performance speeches in which members of the casts or creative teams will offer up a few words. Some will also observe a moment of silence and will urge the audience to join in singing “God Bless America” or “The Star Spangled Banner.” Metamorphoses will be donating half the proceeds of both of today’s performances to the New York Firefighters September 11 Relief Fund.
