Film actress Emma Stone (Magic in the Moonlight) is in negotiations to make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Cabaret, spokespeople for the production have revealed. Stone would replace Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, who is currently playing the role through November 9.
In May 2013, Stone was famously non-announced to star in the production; that is to say, it was widely reported that she had been attached to the project and dropped out due to scheduling conflicts before anything had been officially announced. At that point, the production, a remounting of Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall's Tony-winning revival, hadn't actually been announced, either.
Featuring a book by Joe Masteroff and a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, Cabaret is based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood and John Van Druten's drama I Am a Camera. The production at Studio 54 currently stars Alan Cumming, Danny Burstein, and Linda Emond, alongside Williams.
Stone's many film credits also include The Amazing Spider-Man film series, Easy A, The Help, and the upcoming Birdman, among others.
