La MaMa to Present Michel Hausmann’s The Golem of Havana

The musical, which features music by Salomon Lerner and lyrics by Len Schiff, weaves together music and traditions.

Michel Hausmann will direct The Golem of Havana, a musical written by Hausmann, Salomon Lerner, and Len Schiff at La MaMa from August 28-September 8. The Golem of Havana is a production of Columbia Stages, Palo de Agua, and Theater of the Americas.

The musical tells the story of a Hungarian-Jewish family living in Batista’s Havana on the brink of the Cuban Revolution. They must make the choice between protecting a young guerrilla fighter and guarding their fragile prosperity since immigrating to Cuba after World War II.

The cast will feature Eva Amessé, Rheaume Crenshaw, José Miguel Dao, Felipe Gorostiza, Sandor Juan, Patrick Kerr, Ronald Peet, Alfonso Rey, Yelena Shmulenson, and Liba Vaynberg.

The production team includes Edwin Erminy (scenic design), Christopher Vergara (costume design), Yuki Nakase (lighting design), Andy Cohen and Yair Szarf (sound design), Manuel González Ruiz (graphic design), Jeremy Stoller (general manager), and Yair Rosemberg (executive producer).
