Ed Harris and Ethan Hawke to Star in a New Modern Film Version of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline

Harris will play King Cymbeline.

Michael Almereyda (Hamlet) is set to write and direct a new film adaptation of the Shakespeare classic Cymbeline, starring Oscar nominees Ed Harris and Ethan Hawke (soon to appear on Broadway in Macbeth). According to Deadline, the film will be set in modern-day America and include corrupt cops and biker gangs.

Harris will take on the play’s title role of King Cymbeline. Filming for the production is planned to begin in New York City this month.

Ethan Hawke’s upcoming Broadway stint as Macbeth will kick off this fall at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater. Hawke’s previous stage credits include Clive, which he directed and starred in for the New Group, Ivanov, Blood From a Stone, A Lie of the Mind, for which he received a 2010 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Director of a Play, Hurlyburly, Henry IV, and many more.
