Broadway’s The Trip to Bountiful has announced that Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. will exit the production on August 27, with current cast member Leon Addison Brown taking on the vacated role of Ludie on August 28. The show, which plays Broadway’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre, will continue through October 9, as previously announced.

Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful stars Oscar nominee and Emmy Award winner Cicely Tyson (Sounder) as well as Tony Award nominees Vanessa Williams (Sondheim on Sondheim), Adepero Oduye, and Tom Wopat (Catch Me If You Can).

The play follows an elderly woman named Carrie Watts (Tyson) who longs to return to her hometown of Bountiful, Texas. She leaves on her journey against the wishes of her overprotective son (Gooding) and his bossy wife (Williams). Along the way, she meets a girl (Oduye) with whom she reminisces about her past.
