The Broadway community will mourn the loss of publicist Shirley Herz on August 14 by taking one minute to dim the lights of all the Broadway marquees for exactly one minute at 8pm. Herz died on Sunday at the age of 87.

Shirley Herz was a Philadelphia native who moved to New York as a young woman to pursue a career in the theater. During her years working as a Broadway press agent, Herz represented nearly 100 Broadway shows including La Cage aux Folles, On Golden Pond, and Fiddler on the Roof. Herz also served on the American Theatre Wing’s Advisory Committee for more than a quarter of a century.

Herz is survived by Herbert Boley, whom she married in 1948, as well as Beth and Jeff Alper and a number of cousins from Philadelphia.
