The Public Theater Receives $4 Million Gift from the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust

The Public Theater‘s Executive Director Patrick Wilingham announced that the establishment has received a gift of $4 million from the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust. The trust supports free Shakespeare in the Park as well as the capital campaign for the revitalization of the Astor Place Home. The donation will be acknowledged with a plaque at the Delacorte Theater.
Shakespeare in the Park was conceived by founder Joe Papp as a way to make great theater accessible to all. In its history, Shakespeare in the Park has given more than five million people the chance to see over 150 free productions.
Designed by Ennead Architects, the completed revitalization of the downtown home at Astor Place has opened up this landmark building to the community and transformed the lobby into a public piazza.
The Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust is a long-time supporter of the intellectual, educational, and cultural values of the City.
