Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper’s Kinky Boots to Play Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The new musical Kinky Boots by Harvey Fierstein (book) and Cyndi Lauper (music & lyrics) will play Broadway’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre, beginning March 5, 2013 with an opening on April 4. Jerry Mitchell will direct and choreograph.


The show, based on the 2005 British film of the same name, centers on how Charlie Price works to save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England, following the sudden death of his father, enlisting the help of a fabulous drag performer named Lola.

As previously reported, Tony Award nominee Stark Sands and Billy Porter will lead the cast as Charlie and Lola, respectively.

The cast will also include Annaleigh Ashford, Celina Carvajal, Daniel Sherman, Marcus Neville, Paul Canaan, Kevin Smith Kirkwood, Kyle Taylor Parker, Kyle Post, Charlie Sutton, Joey Taranto, Andy Kelso, Tory Ross, Jennifer Perry, Josh Caggiano, Aaron Bantum, Adinah Alexander, Eric Anderson, Eugene Barry-Hill, Stephen Berger, Caroline Bowman, Sandra DeNise, Eric Leviton, Ellyn Marie Marsh, John Jeffrey Martin, Nathan Peck, Robert Pendilla, Lucia Spina, Sebastian Hedges Thomas, Marquise Neal and Clifton Oliver.

The design team will include David Rockwell (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design), John Shivers (sound design), Josh Marquette (hair design), and Randy Houston Mercer (make-up design), with musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus.

As previously reported, Kinky Boots will play Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre, October 2-November 4.
