Andrew Upton to Remain Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company
Andrew Upton will remain artistic director of Sydney Theatre Company. Upton, with wife Cate Blanchett, had been guiding the organization since 2008. Blanchett will step down when her contract ends later this year.
Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, which featured an adaptation by Upton and starred Blanchett, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving, recently completed a run at New York City Center. Previous productions of Hedda Gabler, also adapted by Upton, and A Streetcar Named Desire have been seen in New York, as well.
