Actress Phyllis Thaxter Has Died

Stage and screen actress Phyllis Thaxter died Tuesday at her home in Florida after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 90.


Thaxter appeared on Broadway in There Shall Be No Night, opposite Alfred Lunt. Lynn Fontanne, and Montgomery Clift; Sundown Beach, alongside Martin Balsam, Julie Harris and Cloris Leachman; and Take Her, She’s Mine with Elizabeth Ashley and Art Carney. In later years, she appeared on the stage in such productions as The Little Foxes with Anne Baxter and The Gin Game with Larry Gates.


She also appeared in numerous films and television series for nearly 50 years, including Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, Bewitched, Jim Thorpe-All American, The Defenders, Superman, and Murder She Wrote.
