Terence Blanchard and Poncho Sanchez’s Chano y Dizzy! CD Set for September 27 Release

Trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard and conguero Poncho Sanchez’s new CD Chano y Dizzy! will pay tribute to two legends of Latin jazz – conga drummer and composer Chano Pozo and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. The album will be released by Concord Jazz on September 27.

The recording will feature songs originally written and performed by Pozo and Gillespie as well as other works that capture the flavor of traditional Latin jazz. Among the numbers on the disc will be “Tin Tin Deo,” “Con Alma,” “Siboney,” “Groovin’ High,” and “Jack’s Dilemma.”

As a composer, Blanchard wrote original music for Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Motherf**ker with the Hat, and as previously announced, he will be composing original music for the forthcoming Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Blair Underwood and Nicole Ari Parker. In addition, he is currently working on his first opera. One of the world’s foremost jazz trumpeters, his recordings include Tale of God’s Will, Choices, and Flow.
