Matthew Gumley, Rachel Resheff et al. Set for NYMF’s The Kid Who Would Be Pope

Casting has been announced for The Kid Who Would Be Pope, a new musical by sibling creators Tom and Jack Megan, which will be presented as part of the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), at The Theater at St. Clements, September 26-October 7. Gabriel Barre will direct.

Billy’s the new kid at Our Lady Of Perpetual Motion and he has a lot to learn about parochial school. When he meets his drama teacher Sister Katherine, a beguiling novice who jogs and sings like Julie Andrews, Billy falls hopelessly in love, resolving to become Pope and change the rules of the church so that they can one day marry.

The cast will include Eric Anderson, Kyle Brenn, Leah Greenhaus, Matthew Gumley, Alison Jaye Horowitz, Jillian Louis, Rachel Resheff, Sarah Safer, and Tina Stafford.

The production will feature music direction and arrangements by Jeffrey Lodin, set design by David Esler, costume design by Isabel Rubio, and sound design by Shannon Slaton.
