James Franco has withdrawn from a previously announced Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth, according to a report in The New York Times. The production, which had been announced for the fall of 2011, is to be directed David Cromer.

The play centers on Alexandra Del Lago, a faded movie star who occupies a hotel room with a young man, Chance Wayne, who hopes the actress can help him break into the movies.

Nicole Kidman had been announced for the role of Del Lago. No details are available regarding her involvement with the project, nor is there any word as to when the production might reach Broadway.
