Jackie Burns, Chandra Lee Schwartz to Be Broadway Wicked‘s New Witches

Jackie Burns and Chandra Lee Schwartz will take over the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, in the Broadway cast of Wicked, at the Gershwin Theatre, beginning with the Tuesday, September 27 performance. Both come to the production directly from Wicked‘s First National Tour.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel of the same name, Wicked tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, and how they grew to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good. The musical features a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

The Broadway company currently features Richard H. Blake as Fiyero, Kathy Fitzgerald as Madame Morrible, Tom McGowan as The Wizard, Etai BenShlomo as Boq, Cristy Candler as Nessarose, and Tom Flynn as Dr. Dillamond.

Burns previously performed on Broadway in Hair , and was part of the original Off-Broadway company of Rock of Ages. Shwartz previously appeared on Broadway in the Bernadette Peters-led revival of Gypsy. Additional credits include Hairspray, Disney’s High School Musical, and Nerds, the Musical, for which she received a Barrymore Award nomination.
