Celisse Henderson, Lindsay Mendez, and Wallace Smith have been cast in the Broadway revival of Godspell, which will begin previews at Circle in the Square on October 13, with an official opening set for November 7. Daniel Goldstein will direct the production, which will feature choreography by Christopher Gattelli. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The show, which debuted Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre in 1971, is a take on biblical parables and the passion of Christ. It is conceived by original director John-Michael Tebelak, and features music and new lyrics from Schwartz.

They join previously announced cast members Hunter Parrish (as Jesus), Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire, Morgan James and Telly Leung.

Smith will be playing the role of Judas. He most recently appeared on Broadway in Green Day’s American Idiot, with other Broadway credits including the revival of Ragtime, Simba in Disney’s The Lion King and Hud in the revival of Hair.

Henderson, who will be making her Broadway debut, appeared in the national touring company of Wicked and at Carnegie Hall in Jerry Springer: The Opera. She released her debut album Show and Tell last year. Mendez’s Broadway credits include Sherie Rene Scott’s Everyday Rapture and the recent revival of Grease!

The production will feature scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Miranda Hoffman, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Andrew Keister, orchestrations by Michael Holland, and musical direction by Charlie Alterman.
