The Actors Fund performance of The Book of Mormon, scheduled for August 28 at 8pm at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, has been canceled, with a new date for the fundraising event to be announced in the near future. In a statement, the organization says the benefit “has been postponed out of concern for the safety of theatre patrons due to Hurricane Irene.”

The postponement of this specially scheduled event will not affect the 3pm matinee of the production, which will be offered as planned. As reported earlier, all Broadway shows are expected to offer regularly scheduled performances this weekend.

Written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, the production, co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw and featuring choreography by Nicholaw, the musical follows a pair of mismatched Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s about as far from Salt Lake City as one can get.
