Playwright Theresa Rebeck has been appointed an Associate Artist by the Roundabout Theatre Company as part of an expansion of their initiatives currently in place to support theater artists and develop new work. Rebeck’s most recent play, The Understudy, was seen at the Roundabout this past season.

The Roundabout has also announced that David West Read’s The Dream of the Burning Boy, directed by Evan Cabnet, will be presented in Spring 2011 as part of the Roundabout Underground initiative. In the play, the sudden death of a high school overachiever exposes a secret that could destroy those left behind, or bring them closer together. It will be presented in the Black Box Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, beginning February 25, with an opening on March 20.

In addition, the Roundabout has seen steady growth in its New Play Initiative and commissions, with ten writers currently under commission: Bekah Brunstetter, Julia Cho, Lydia Diamond, Diana Fithian, Nathan Louis Jackson, Stephen Karam, Steven Levenson, Robert Lopez, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and Julie Marie Myatt.
