Roderick Hill, Garry Hynes, et al. Set for 1st Irish Festival

Additional programming has been announced for 1st Irish 2010, an annual festival of Irish theater, to take place in multiple New York City venues, September 7-October 4. The event is coordinated by Origin Theatre Company, and includes 16 plays and involves over 300 artists.

Previously reported productions include Absolution and Exit/Entrance, both at 59E59 Theaters; The Mint’s revival of Wife to James Whelan; and Solas Nua’s The Prophet of Monto, at the Flea.

Additional productions will include the site-specific company Kabosh in This Is What We Sang at the Synagogue for the Arts; Tall Tales Theatre’s Hue and Cry at Irish Repertory Theatre; The Holy Ground at Manhattan Theatre Source; and Trans-Euro Express, starring Broadway veteran Roderick Hill, at Irish Arts Center.

There will also be productions of Belinda McKeon’s Graham and Frost; Darragh Martin’s The Map of Lost Things; Ed Malone’s solo, Three Irish Widows Versus the Rest of the World; writer/director Don Creedon’s Guy Walks Into a Bar; a staged reading of Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf, and Ron Hutchinson’s Rat in the Skull.

In addition, an Irish Theatre Symposium will be held at the NYU Glucksman Ireland House, on Saturday September 25, features a cross-section of artists working in contemporary Irish theatre, including the Tony Award-winning director Garry Hynes. Kabosh will also host a special panel discussion on Tuesday, September 28 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
