On Tuesday, August 10, the New York International Fringe Festival held a sneak peak at The Ellen Stewart Theater at La MaMa. This year’s festival features 197 emerging theater troupes and dance companies in 20 venues in Lower Manhattan.
Preview performances included scenes from The Princes of Persuasion, a robotic puppet show created by Ithai Benjamin and Rebeca Raney;
Evan O’Television, a unique multimedia comedy created by Evan O’Sullivan; Bunked!, a musical comedy set at summer camp written by Alaina Kuniun and Bradford Proctor with music by Proctor; Hurricane Katrina Comedy Festival, a drama about the disaster which will play on the 5th anniversary on August 29, written by Rob Florence; Living on the Edge, a high-energy parkour show choreographed by Nadia Lesy; Shine: A Burlesque Musical, about a group of dancers trying to save an old burlesque theater, created by Cass King, John Woods, and Sam Dulmage; and Veritas, a historical drama about Havard’s anti-gay “Secret Court” in 1920, written by Stan Richardson.
