NYMF 2010 Member Tickets Go On Sale on August 1; Full Lineup of Events Is Announced

Member tickets for New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), which will run September 27-October 17, go on sale on Sunday, August 1.

The festival will feature 27 musical productions, a developmental reading series and special events. Among the highlights are previously announced invited productions such as Anthony Rapp’s Without You, and the previously reported NextLink Project offerings, including Gordon Leary’s Cheer Wars.

Among the newly announced NYMF offerings is Fellowship!, with a book by Kelly Holden-Bashar and Joel McCrary, music by Allen Simpson, and lyrics and additional material by Brian D. Bradley, Lisa Fredrickson, Kelly Holden-Bashar, Joel McCrary, Edi Patterson, Steve Purnick, Cory Rouse, Allen Simpson, Ryan Smith, Peter Allen Vogt, and Matthew Stephen Young.

Also on tap are David Hein and Irene Carl Sankoff’s My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding; Therapy Rocks, which features music and lyrics by Karen Bishko, who has written the book with Kaethe Fine and Nat Bennett; David Rossmer and Steve Rosen’s V-Day; and Matthew Neff’s dance musical Petrouchka, which has music by Michelangelo Sosnowitz.

The sixth newly announced production is Special Letter, which has book and lyrics by In Seon Park and music by Chang Wook Ma. This piece is being presented in partnership with the Daegu International Musical Festival (DIMF) in South Korea, where it was presented in 2009 and won both the Guarantee Premiere Homegrown Musical Award and the Korean Musical Award for Best Book.

Among the special events that will be part of NYMF in 2010 are 8Minute Musicals; If It Only Takes a Minute, a concert of songs from underappreciated musicals, and My Life: Today, which has been inspired by the writings and stories of participants in the Rosie Broadway Kids ensemble and will be performed by members of the group.

Other special events include presentations of Jill Jaysen and Mark Shepard’s Beautyfull; Jesse Gage’s Oklahomo: The Adventures of Dave and Gary; Our Country, with a book by Dan Collins and music and lyrics by Tony Asaro; and Water and Power, which features music and lyrics by Jeff Lantos and music by Bill Augustine.

The pieces featured in the NYMF reading series will be Donna Kaz and Gerald Stockstill’s Food on the Aisle, Christopher Barnes and Ryan Mercy’s Most Likely to Die and Tim Long and Jerome Johnson’s Roofless.

NYMF has also announced the events that will be part of its ongoing partnership with the Paley Center for Media, where on October 2 and 9, a number of musicals that have been adapted for television will be screened, including Rodgers and Hart’s Dearest Enemy, the George M. Cohan bio George M!, and Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane’s Best Foot Forward. The final offering at the Paley Center will be Bloomer Girl, featuring Barbara Cook and following the screening, Cook and Ernie Harburg (son of lyricist Yip Harburg) will be interviewed by Bill Rudman.

Finally, Susan DiLallo and Stephen Weiner’s musical Once Upon a Time in New Jersey, will run October 2-31 at the Hudson Guild Theatre in partnership with NYMF.
