Marian Seldes to Be Honored at New York Cabaret Convention; Angela Lansbury to Present Award

Marian Seldes will receive the newly created Award of Appreciation at the opening night gala of the New York Cabaret Convention to be held October 7-9 in the Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall. Angela Lansbury will present the award.

In addition to the awards ceremony, which will include the presentation of The Mabel Mercer Award to an artist to be announced in the near future, the gala opening night will feature the newly announced A Suite of Songs for Stephen, a 22-minute medley of Sondheim’s Broadway compositions that was specially arranged by Barbara Carroll in honor of the songwriter’s 80th birthday anniversary this year.

As previously reported, Klea Blackhurst, Carole Bufford, Jeff Harnar, Nicole Henry, Barb Jungr, Amanda King, Andrea Marcovicci, Sue Mathys, Marilyn Maye are also scheduled to perform at the convention’s opening event.

Along with news of the awards to be presented at the opening of the New York Cabaret Convention, it has been announced that at the closing event on October 9, actor and singer Nicolas King will receive The Julie Wilson Award. King, seen frequently in New York’s cabarets, has appeared on Broadway credits in A Thousand Clowns and Hollywood Arms.
